Values
This can feel like an aspirational value because it is so often “easier said than done.” Curiosity leads to growth. Being judgmental inhibits that growth.
Good works requires us to ask good questions and make the most of the answers we find to those questions; even if we don’t like the answer.
Be Curious, Not Judgmental
We should all pursue justice and mercy with humility and without limitations or conditions. Good work means speaking up for the marginalized and using the privileges we have to make life and the world better for everyone.
Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly.
Good work starts when we value and respect each and every person on this planet - near and far. There is no room for racism, sexism, or discrimination in good work. We’re all just people trying to get by.
Diversity is a gift & a strength
Collaboration creates enduring success
Working together allows us all to focus on our strengths and not wallow in our weaknesses. There’s truth in the idea that a rising tide lifts all boats.
Our ability to succeed does not require someone else to fail. Competition is healthy - when it’s fair. The goal is not to eradicate competition, but to win this round and everyone lives to play another round.
This is NOT a zero-sum game
We all need to sleep at night
This is actually two values wrapped in one.
First off, if our work causes people to ask us, “How do you sleep at night?” we need to step back and re-evaluate things. Winning at any cost, particularly compromising our moral values, is not what we should strive for.
Second, rest is important. Some of us are early-risers. Some of us are night owls. The work that needs to get done will get done. Flexible schedules mean we all can and should get the rest we need, and spend time with the people and things that matter most to us.
Fair Pricing
Good work sometimes (often) works on tight budgets. The goal here is not to be expensive or to be cheap - the goal is to be fair.
Pricing is determined on a project-by-project basis. Baseline pricing loosely follows industry averages for marketing consulting, then is adjusted (usually down) to arrive at a fair price for the work done. Discounts/adjustments are applied to reflect packages of services, opportunity for ongoing work/support, non-profit/solidarity pricing.
We all need to make a living wage in order to survive and provide for ourselves and our families. But there is such a thing as enough. Our own success should never be dependent on others going without or the exploitation of those around us.
People over profit
