Sensemaking Media’s goal is to help mission-driven people & organizations make sense of an overwhelmingly busy, always chaotic, and often quite nonsensical media environment to reach their most valuable audiences.
This project grew out of a love for helping people doing amazing work to expand their reach and scale their communication efforts.

About the founder
Joseph Stucker
I had worked in digital marketing for over a decade when it finally started to wear on me.
For years I had always loved the puzzle of digging through web analytics to figure out what was going on with clients’ websites. I loved discovering how people interacted with websites and coming up with strategies and solutions to improve the experience.
But with every passing day I was less and less interested in figuring out how to sell more products to people who didn’t want or need what we were selling. I was frustrated by an industry obsessed with numbers and too often incapable of appreciating or contextualizing the human beings behind those numbers.
Eventually I left my job at a marketing agency and went to work for my church - managing our website, app, email outreach, and advertising campaigns. All the while, I kept a small number of clients that I had helped over the years to build their websites and manage their marketing efforts.
“I understand how the system works, but I’m not a jerk”
As I looked to expand this side hustle in early 2026, I found myself explaining how I got to where I was.
“I understand how the system works, but I’m not a [jerk],” I said (my exact word choice may have been slightly different.)
What I meant by that was I understood the technology and the industry. I understood how to use all the latest tech to target people. I understood how the best marketers in the business did things. And at times, I chose to do things differently.
I was committed to helping people communicate their vision clearly, but ethically. And I wasn’t going to charge an arm and a leg to do it.
After leaving agency-side marketing roles, I focused on working with people who were passionate about what they were doing and finding ways to contribute something beyond a profit to their little corner of the world.
I love working with people doing good work.
